The world’s first Canada Philippine Fashion Week is fresh off the runway with the launch of its opening night party on Monday hosted by Lexus Downtown Toronto. The six-day event celebrates the soul of Filipino arts, culture, fashion and entertainment, showcasing top Philippine designers reaching new heights and breaking the international stage.
“Canada Philippine Fashion Week is a dream come true for me,” says Jeff Rustia, Executive Director and Founder of CPFW. “This pioneering event is a wonderful platform to showcase the talent and creativity of the Filipinos. The best part is that it is all for a great cause—in aid of Kol Hope Foundation for Children—to help children with disabilities around the world.”
Rustia discovered the localized approach of Filipino designers when he travelled to Manila. When it comes to haute couture, designers loved infusing traditional garb and indigenous elements in their work including modernizing the butterfly-sleeved dress, made famous by former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
Today marks the first of his dream becoming a reality after writing down these four words: Canada Philippine Fashion Week. So stay tuned for other event highlights: An Evening with Jose Rizal Fashion + Film + Exhibit on Wednesday, June 12th at the TIFF Bell LightBox; and the Philippine’s Fashion’s Biggest Night on Friday June 14th at the Roy Thomson Hall.
